Gina Hollenbeck is a mom & lung cancer WARRIOR!
Kim met Gina back in 2016 when Kim started the WARRIOR project which is a photo shoot that celebrates women that are currently battling cancer as well as those who are now in remission. Since then, the two have become friends who continue to love and support each other.
In this episode, Kim and Gina chat about selling most of your belongings and moving to a new country with two young boys in tow. Gina shares the ups and downs of this experience and what she learned about herself along the way.
"Be where your feet are."
Gina talks about about the time leading up to her stage 4 lung cancer diagnosis and how she learned very quickly that you must be your own biggest advocate for your health. Nobody knows your body like you do! She also shares the ups and downs her journey since her diagnosis and how she will choose stars over mud every time. She also talks about the work she is doing to raise awareness around lung cancer and provide hope to others battling this wicked disease.
Spoiler alert: Anyone with lungs can get lung cancer.
Kim and Gina discuss the pressure women put on themselves to try and achieve someone else's idea of the perfect body and Gina opens up about her own struggle with anorexia which she had to face head on after she had been diagnosed with cancer.
"The moment I decided that I needed some help is when cancer was eating away by body, I got down to about 103 lbs, but when I looked in the mirror all I could see was that I still had a little bit of fat on my belly. That was the turning point for me because I realized that I would never be thin enough."
Gina's story is one of survival and hope! She is a brave and beautiful woman who is not afraid to be vulnerable and bare her soul. We are so grateful to her for sharing her story with us!
